Wildlife and Pet Commissions

Kate works predominately in pastel, pencil and watercolour to create both freelance and commissioned animal portraits

Whether you are looking for a  simple or detailed portrait, Kate will work to your budget and specifications to create a beautiful painting, just contact her to discuss your options and what would be most suitable for your animal – watercolour & pastel mixed media often works well so don’t just think in terms of a single medium

Whatever your preference, simple or fully detailed, Kate will work to your budget and specifications to create a beautiful portrait

The horse Finn, is a pastel portrait with a loose cloudy background – something pastels are ideally suited to create

Most important of all though is that wherever possible, don’t wait until your best friend of whatever size is no longer with us… the best portraits are always achieved from photographs taken specifically for their portrait…

It’s also a more of a memory of happier times?

GOOD IMAGES ARE ESSENTIAL TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL PORTRAITS
Good example of a portrait photo

They should be:

  • Clear & sharp
  • Taken in daylight
  • Taken specifically for the portrait commission
  • Taken at the animal’s head height – you may need to stand on a chair for a horse or large animal or crouch down for smaller animals if putting them on a table is not possible
  • Taken in a way that your animal enjoys, such as the collie dog, make it fun for them to ‘pose’!

Digital photos are easily lightened so details can easily be seen or cropped in close to assist in the approval mock-up

Traditional prints can be scanned first so that the above process can be done, it just takes a little longer
